Lock Rekeying in Charlotte County

Rekeying changes the pins inside a lock so a new key works and old keys do not. We do it on site at your home or business.

What rekeying actually is

Most door locks use a pin tumbler cylinder. Inside it, a row of small pins lines up when the right key goes in, and the lock turns. Rekeying replaces those pins with a new set that matches a new key. The lock body, the handle, and the finish on your door stay exactly as they are. Only the key changes.

How the visit goes

At your property, we take the cylinder out of the lock, swap the pins to match a new key, then test the new key in each lock before putting the hardware back together. Your old keys will no longer turn the rekeyed locks.

When rekeying makes sense

  • You moved into a home or rental and do not know who still has copies
  • Keys were lost or stolen
  • A roommate, tenant, or employee moved out with a key
  • You want old copies to stop working without replacing hardware

Rekeying or replacing?

Rekeying is usually the simpler choice when the locks are in good working order and you are happy with how they look. If a lock is damaged, worn out, sticky, or you want a different style or a sturdier lock, lock installation is the better fit. While we are there, we can look at the locks and tell you what we see.

Done on site, wherever you are

Since we are mobile, rekeying happens at your door. That makes it a practical next step after a house lockout caused by lost keys, or after a business lockout where a key went missing. We serve all of Charlotte County, including Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Rotonda West, Englewood, and Babcock Ranch. See every community on our service areas page.

Questions people ask

Will my locks look different after rekeying?

No. The same locks stay on the door. Only the pins inside and the key change.

Can every lock be rekeyed?

Most standard pin tumbler locks can. Some locks are not designed for it, and in that case replacing the lock may be the better option.

Do I need to be there?

Someone with access to the property should be present so we can work on the locks and hand over the new keys.
